Now open: Working in the open

From today, you can book a place on CDL’s newest training course: Working in the open. My name’s Giles, I run my own business as well as working alongside CDL on various projects. I’ll be the tutor and I have to say up front: I’m already quite excited.
This 2-day course is for anyone who wants to learn how to apply agile communication techniques to their business, team or organisation.
It will be a practical course, with lots of chances to think about creative ideas and try a few short bits of writing. We’ll make a point of tying the theory to your specific circumstances, to make it all as tangible and re-useable as possible.
Long term watchers of the CDL blog might remember that this course started as an experiment back in 2020 (thanks to everyone who came along to that).
Since then, I’ve learned a fair few things from the teams I’ve worked with, and there’s going to be a narrower focus and more time to think things through, and write things down.
We’ll spend some time considering purpose: what needs to be communicated, to whom, why and how? Plus some time on process and practicalities: getting things written quickly when the team is already too busy doing the work; and writing and editing when not everyone involved is a confident writer or editor.
Since trying that experiment in 2020, I’ve worked with quite a few teams (including CDL clients) who have struggled with problems like this. They know they have something to say, but not always how best to say it. They really know their stuff in their heads, but sometimes struggle to express it in simple words. They often just wish that their stakeholders, clients, managers or funders understood them a little better.
A lot of the time, the problem boils down to: “People don’t understand us, and we don’t know why.”
If that sounds like you, or your team, or your organisation, maybe this course might be helpful.
